How to Pack a Bag When Traveling
When going on a trip, many men, to their shame, have the women in their lives- their mom, girlfriend, or wife- pack their suitcase for them. They either can’t be bothered or are afraid they don’t know how. But your mom won’t always be around, and if you plan on being a well-traveled man, it’s essential that you learn how to effectively pack a bag. You don’t want to bring too much stuff, too little stuff, or have your stuff arrive in a crumpled mess.
Create a packing list
Instead of trying to figure out at one in the morning what you need to pack, create a list of items that you regularly need on a trip. A packing list not only ensures that you won’t forget anything important (especially the little things that are easily overlooked while rushing out the door), it also prevents you from over packing. This will help you cut down on expensive baggage fees.
When creating a list, make it as general as possible. You don’t want stuff on there that you only need for certain trips. For example, don’t put “ski coat” on your list if you only ski once a year. You can always modify the list depending on the trip you’re going on.
We’ve created a simple packing list to help get you started. Print it off before your next trip.
Check the Weather
Some guys don’t check what the weather is going to be like where they’re headed and thus stuff their bag with items they never end up using. Before you pack, check the weather report for a semi-accurate prediction of what Mother Nature has in store for you on your trip. Forecasts these days go hour by hour, so you can see what you’ll need to be comfortable morning, noon, and night. Weather.com is a great resource.
Also, call the friend you’re visiting, or someone who has been where you’re going, and ask if your destination has any quirky weather patterns. For example, San Francisco’s weather may look balmy on the forecast, but if the fog rolls in while you’re out and about, you’re going to get pretty chilly if you haven’t brought a jacket.
Packing Clothes
Every man wishes to pack as lightly as possible. But sometimes when you’re faced with your closet and that empty suitcase you feel a bit of inertia about what to bring. Simply pack one pair of pants (or shorts) for every 2-3 days of your trip, and a shirt and pair of underwear for every single morning. Then add one extra shirt, pair of underwear, and pair of pants, in case something happens that will require it. When you’ve packed the basics, think about what additional items you might need. A formal outfit? A bathing suit? A jacket and gloves?
Also, don’t forget a pair of pajama pants to sleep in. Some guys usually sleep in their undies and therefore overlook this important item. You don’t want your host or hostess to catch sight of your nether regions when waking you up, and you need something to pad down to breakfast in.
Finally, pack an empty garbage bag in your suitcase. That way you can keep your dirty clothes separate from your clean ones while on your trip.
Packing to Avoid Wrinkling
The bane of any traveler’s existence is the wrinkles and creases that end up in your clothes after you pull them out of your suitcase. Try these techniques to keep your clothes neat and crisp while they’re en route to your destination.
Alternate Folding
One way to avoid creases in clothing is by placing one garment between the folds of another garment. By placing another garment between the folds, you can prevent a crease from forming.
In this example we’re packing a dress shirt, a pair of dress slacks, a tie, and few t-shirts.
1. Start off by buttoning the bottom, middle, and top button of the dress shirt.
2. Lay the shirt facedown on a flat surface. Put your finger about an inch from the collar of the shirt and fold the sleeve into the shirt, forming a straight line down the edge. Bring the sleeve in line with edge you just created. Repeat on the other side. You should end up with something that looks like this.
3. Lay your tie completely unfolded along the length of the shirt. Place a folded t-shirt at the point where you want to fold the dress shirt.
4. Fold over your dress shirt. Fold any part of your tie over that’s hanging out of your shirt over your dress shirt. You’ll end up with something like this.
5. Now it’s time to fold your slacks. Lay your slacks on a flat surface and place a t-shirt at the point where you plan on folding the pants. Fold.
6. If you want, place another t-shirt on top of your folded pants. Fold the bottom half of your pants over your t-shirt.
7. Flip over your pants, so the waist band is face up. Place another t-shirt where you want to fold the waist band over the rest of the pants. Fold. You should end up with three folds in your pants with t-shirts in between each fold.
Fold and Roll
If the alternate folding method isn’t your thing, you can always go with the traditional fold and roll method.
1. Roll up garments that don’t wrinkle as easily. These include t-shirts, underwear, jeans, and cotton slacks.
2. Fold garments like dress slacks, dress shirts, and dress coats.
3. Place the rolled up garments on the bottom of the bag. Then place the folded garments on top.
4. Place shoes, socks, and your Dopp kit along the sides of the bag.
Packing a dress coat
If you’re traveling on business or headed out to be the best man at your bud’s wedding, you’re probably going to pack a suit. We’ve shown you how you can fold your pants in order to reduce creases, but what about your jacket? Many large suitcases have a small rack so you can hang jackets. But if you’re just bringing a carry-on you may not have this option. Here’s a nifty method, lifted from a 1953 men’s wardrobe guide, on how to fold a dress or sport coat while keeping wrinkles to a minimum.
1. Spread the coat out on a flat surface. Make certain collar is turned up, that sleeves are straight and laid out smoothly, free of wrinkles.
2. Turn sleeves up so that lower portion is about even with armhole when folded. Keep all parts smooth and free of wrinkles
3. Fold front side parts of coat over sleeves so that edges meet a rear center seam. Smooth out wrinkles.
4. To pack in wide container: Double up over sleeves to top of collar. Pick up each side of garment and lay coat smoothly into bag.
5. To pack in duffle bag or narrow container: Smooth out wrinkles, fold left side over right side, then bottom to top, and lay flat in bag.

PACKING ASSISTANCE FOR YOUR TRAVEL
Packing of items into suitcases and travel bags has its technical know-how. Those who know it ain’t bothered when the cock crows to start the preparation. Those who lack the technique may depend on the services of unpaid maid, girlfriend, mother, wife or younger sister or brother to accomplish this.
I hereby offer my assistance in this regard to those who lack the skill because those you often employ to do the packing for you may not always be available when you most need to pack. It is advisable to challenge yourself to learn the basics of packing for travel. The principles discussed here may just be what you need to start laying the items inside those bags if you want to be the well travel person you ever aspire to be.
Write out the packing list first, do the most of your packing on paper where you can add and omit items and ask yourself why taking this and why not that? Your packing list will only serve you on a particular trip, you will require another list for another trip and so on. Why?, Your travel conditions will always change thereby will demand for regular update of your list.
Don’t figure out what you need without developing a blue print, scrutinise, then start packing. This practice will usually help you to give deep though to even the least of your needs especially the little items that can easily be forgotten while rushing out of the door to catch up with time. It will also help you to curtail over-load and excess luggage fees when it is avoidable.
You have to ask yourself, can I be moderate in my list? Moderacy is count a great deal because you have a limited size to pack.
Consider the weather of your destination. You can do this by contacting somebody living in that place where you are heading, ask questions about the weather and prepare for the weather that is waiting to greet you on arrival.
Weather can pose great challenge on your trip, to get the prediction of the weather will ultimately worth the price. You can also browse through www.weather.com to have the pre-knowledge of what mother nature have to present to you in your destination.
Beating Inertia
When faced with indecision over what to add to your list and what to remove just simply and gradually start the packing process may days (about five) before your travelling date. Begin with your underwear and paints, socks, brassiere, then add your shirts, trousers, skirt and blouse and your daily needs.
If you have any official or social meeting and engagement, add your official or social wears depending on the one you may likely engage in. Is will not be of good to you to deceive yourself, pack the necessary and leave out the irrelevant.
Are you apt at sleeping in your nightdress or will do with your pajama pants? Fill your briefcase with your nightie.

There are many faithful Christian brothers and Sisters here. Basically, we have central compound for all the Churches in Kuwait, except fewer that are outside, like the Catholic Church which has it own location separate from others.
National Evangelical Church -Kuwait is controlling the affairs of all Churches in Kuwait and it is led by a Kuwaiti Pastor. Some of the Churches in Kuwait are: The Lighthouse Church, The Redeemed Christian Church of God, Catholic Church, Church for Indians, Jehovah’s Witness, Seed of life Church, etc.
In Kuwait you meet people from all over the world.
I was surprised when I read further from the Kuwait Pocket guide that the country gained its independence from British colonization on June 19, 1961. By the end of 1962 the Kuwait constitution was established and the first election for the National Assembly was held, ironically, this was about 262 days after Nigeria’s independence.
Wikipedia encyclopedia explains further on the State of Kuwait (Arabic: dawlat alkuwajt) is a sovereign Arab emirate on the coast of the Persian Gulf, enclosed by Saudi Arabia to the south and Iraq to the north and west. The name is a diminutive of an Arabic word meaning "fortress built near water." It has a population of 3.1 million and an area of 17,818 km². Kuwait is a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary system of government and Kuwait City serves as its only political and economic capital.
Kuwait has the world's fifth largest oil reserves and is one of the richest countries in the world per capita. Kuwait's oil fields were discovered and exploited in the 1930s and after it gained independence from the United Kingdom in 1961, the nation's oil industry saw unprecedented growth. Petroleum and petroleum products now account for nearly 95% of export revenues, and 80% of government income.
In 1990, Kuwait was invaded and annexed by neighbouring Iraq. The seven month-long Iraqi occupation came to an end after a direct military intervention by United States-led forces. Nearly 750 Kuwaiti oil wells were set ablaze by the retreating Iraqi army resulting in a major environmental and economic catastrophe. Kuwait's infrastructure was badly damaged during the war and had to be rebuilt.
Some factors have been identified to have contributed immensely to the development of Kuwait and these provide them the strength they managed reasonably. Some of the factors among others are:
POPULATION: The 2007 estimate put Kuwait population at 3,399,637. The expatriates outnumber the Kuwaitis.
LANGUAGE: Arabic is the only official language and the only language in the country. This fosters unity among them.
SYSTEM OF GOVERNMENT: The Amir of Kuwait is not politically elected. They run kingship type of government and it is hereditary, that is, their rulers come from a particular family. The leadership has been consistent, effective and developmental.

CITIZEN’S WELFARE: The interest of the citizens is most paramount, this can never be compromised, no materialistic influence can make them to sell their birth right. The standards are there, they are obediently executed without drifting.
DISTRIBUTION OF WEALTH: The system encourages even distribution of wealth among the citizens. Their wealth stays in their country and it is used properly for development. No swaddling of money to overseas to the detriment of father’s land. Per capital income is over $50,000. Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) totalling over $130 billion.
REGULATION AND NATIONAL POLICY: No foreigner can buy land or building of their own in Kuwait. In fact, to do a petty trading you must have a Kuwaiti sponsor who partners the business. This is a legal structure which can not be broken or manipulated, no matter how smart you may be. It goes further to put a check on foreigner's wealth.
WOMEN’S RIGHTS: In June 2007 the National Assembly of Kuwait unanimously passed a law on women’s rights which now restricts the hours that women are allowed to work and bars women from working between 8:00 pm and 7:00 am with an exception for women working in the medical field. The law further prohibit women from jobs that "contravene with public morals" and that require women to be in otherwise all-male environments.
FREEDOM OF THE PRESS: In 2005 Kuwait ranked 85th in the Reporters Without Borders world survey of the freedom of the press. It ranks among the most free countries in the Middle East on press freedom. Certain subjects are understood locally to be taboo and there is still widespread self-censorship of local and foreign press.
As an expatriate, once you enter into Kuwait with a visa apart from visit visa, you are mandated to undergo a medical test and obtain a fingerprint certificate. With this medical screening no foreigner can bring in any terminal disease. Revenue stamp must be paid in the process, this is inevitable.
No new residence is stamped or old renewed unless the expatriate has paid the state health insurance premium.
To me as an expatriate this is a credit to Kuwait government, if my country values the lives of their citizens and not self centered, the resources God blessed us with would have been used equitably, developmentally and to raise the standard of living of the citizens. The words corruption, fraud, mass emigration and disregard to green passport by foreign immigration would have been a taboo.
Despite all the goodies attributed to Kuwait, of course there are few disadvantages for the expatriates. Expatriates can not buy a house or land. Expatriates can not own business without having a Kuwaiti sponsor. You need a permission from your employer as a government employee to take up a part time job. As a professional, you may end up picking a job outside your core area just to earn a living. The reality of life here in all its ups and downs is inescapable and traffic accidents know no nationality. The inequitable salary scale between the Kuwaiti workers and the expatriate is too outrageous. Language barrier is a big problem in Kuwait for those of us from English speaking nations since Arabic is the official and only Language. To pick a good job is mostly very difficult under this situation. No citizenship to the children of foreigners born and bread in Kuwait no matter how long you live. Weather in Kuwait being located in the Sahara geographical region is characterized by long hot and dry summers, short and sometimes rainy winters. Dust storm occurs at any time but more frequent during summer.
In June 2007, Kuwait was listed among the worst offenders in human trafficking. A report from the United States Department of State confirmed this. This was basically due to the Kuwait government's repeated failure to tackle the problem of human trafficking.
VISA REGULATIONS
Nigerians are expected to obtain visa to enter Kuwait. There are two types of visas: Visit and Residence visas.
A visitor to Kuwait must be sponsored by a Kuwaiti individual or company or a resident foreigner who is a relative of the visitor. American citizens are sometimes given a visit visa without a Kuwaiti sponsor.
Passport and/or passport replacing documents must be valid
A foreigner whose country has a visa abolition treaty with Kuwait, that is, a treaty permitting Kuwaiti to enter other country without a visa may also be granted same right. In this case, such persons will only require an entry permits which follows same procedures as of visit visa.
A visit visa can only allow you a stay of up to 30 days but you have up to 90 days to decide on your journey after the date of issue. The entry permit is free while the visit visa is chargeable between KWD3 to KWD5. Kuwait currency is called Kuwaiti Dinar (KWD).
SPONSOR’S RESPONSIBILITIES
The sponsor to be responsible for the visitor will need to obtain application form from the Ministry of Interior. To obtain a visit visa for a relative a resident foreigner will require: Visa application and security form completed by the sponsor, copy of the visitor's passport, original and copy of the sponsor's passport, original and copy of the sponsor's civil ID, original and copy of the sponsor's work permit, recent salary certificate from the sponsor's employer and authenticated proof of the family relationship.
VISIT VISA FOR BUSINESS PURPOSE
To obtain a visit visa for a business visitor, a Kuwaiti sponsor or company will require: Visa application and security forms completed by the sponsor, copy of the visitor's passport, copy of the sponsor's signature as registered for the business purpose, copy of the letter of invitation from the sponsor to the business visitor stating the purpose of the visit.
Visitor can extend their stay for one or two months or to temporary residence provided application for extension is filled up before the visa expires. The fine for staying more than 30 days without applying for extension earlier is KWD10 per day. A visitor whose visa expires will not be allowed to leave until the fine is paid. This must be paid at the Immigration Department during Government working hours and not at the airport.
DEPENDENT VISAS
A male employee once he has obtained his own residency may sponsor his wife and Children to live with him in Kuwait, if he meets the minimum salary condition.
A working wife can not sponsor her husband as a dependent. Sons over 21 years cannot be sponsored as dependent.
Dependent family members may not work without converting to a work visa under Kuwait sponsorship. This is now allowed after a year of stay.
No vaccinations are required to enter Kuwait from any country.
Laptop users will also like to add their flash drive, extra storage facility like the External Hard Disk Drive and the laptop adapter. If you are attending a seminar, conference or business meeting, your extension cable may also be ideal.
Just as baby wipes will serve an adult in a million useful way while travelling, it can be used to clean up messes while feasting, after taking snacks on the run and to clean up spiked coffee. If you consider a busy schedule on your trip, burst into a nearby grocery store and tuck at least a quart zip bag of baby wipes into your list.
Remember that your original passport and the photocopies of the data page are necessary. Make some copies and keep them in different bags and away from the original which normally will be carried on your person throughout the trip.
Keep photocopies of your itinerary, one in each bag including your carry on hand luggage. Sometimes when you travel, you become stressed up and details get lost from the memory easily under this condition, so it will be advisable to have your documents in your hand bag for easy reference.
For ipod and music lovers, a pair of battery-operated speakers may be ideal in your hotel room.
For those who take pleasure in wine while alone in the hotel room, you may want to remember having a corkscrew in the list.
This will give you a relief when it is needed.
You wont like to forget your mobile phone, though it may not be roaming but when you return you may want to communicate with friends and relatives from the landing and arrival hall to pass some vital information concerning your movement from the airport.
Your digital camera and spare batteries of all the devices you are travelling with are also to be considered, don't forget them.
To freshen up your hotel rooms, you may not like to forget your air fresher.
Energy booster and some refreshment may also be indispensable especially when you are going to transit between countries or change aircraft. You may have also lost taste for the menu in the aircraft and you need to quench undesirable hunger. This is also essential if you experience delay in your flight or get stranded for a couple of hours or overnight.
Extra clothes, socks, undies and belt are also good to be added to your list to serve you when they are needed.
If you desire to make note like I like to do while travelling, you will probably want to remember your notebook, pad, pen and pencil.
Remember your BTA, cash, and your credit and debit cards. Do not keep them in one bag, separate them. Scatter them in different bags. The purpose of this is to have access to some cash if one bag is lost or delayed.
Don't also forget some valuable items like your medications. To acquire new ones and exact medication elsewhere may be more expensive or difficult to locate. Make sure they are packed in their original packs.
You may likely want to remember home, places and people like wife, husband, children, parents, relatives and friends while on your journey, family photos and other interesting will do in this case. You can kill loneliness with them and explain yourself better to people you meet if necessary. Some interesting Video Compact Disk, Digital Video Disk and audio CD may also help when loneliness set in.
You may require to carry your warm clothes especially when you travel in winter or head towards a cold region.
It is important to watch the weight of your bag as you pack the items and be prepared to pay the imposed extra or excess luggage fee. Ask yourself if you will be ready to pay the extra charge. You either pay or shed your load. I once lost valuables in a foreign airport sometimes ago when I was not prepared to pay the extra fee on excess luggage. I think that was because of lack of preparation. Keep your weight slightly below the permitted size and enjoy your trip.
Packing Shoes
Many men throw their shoes in their bag willy nilly, but shoes are often (surprise, surprise) quite dirty and can soil your clothes. Put each shoe in a newspaper or grocery bag and place them on top of all your stuff in the suitcase or in unused crevasses. If you’ve got dress shoes that you don’t want to be crushed or creased, stuff the inside of the shoes with rolled up socks and place them on the perimeter of the suitcase with the sole against the outside edge.
Packing Toiletries
If you’re checking a bag and bringing a carry-on, I recommend stashing your toiletries in your carry-on bag. Perhaps even a change of underwear as well. Bags often get lost or misplaced or your flight gets delayed and you end up in a hotel without a toothbrush, toothpaste, or deodorant. But of course, when packing your Dopp kit in your carry-on, you have to follow the rules about liquids provided to us by The Man.
In late 2006, the U.S. Transportation Security Administration introduced rules pertaining to the carrying of liquid, gel, and aerosol products aboard commercial aircraft. All liquids must be in thee ounce containers or smaller. You also must place all liquids in a clear ziplock bag. Unless you want to be that guy who holds up the line at the airport, you’ll need to take make sure your carry-on toiletries meet these specifications.
One way you can do this is by buying travel size containers of your liquid products. They’re quite handy and space-saving. If you want to save some money and help reduce waste, you can buy cheap travel size bottles and fill them up with your products from home.
If this is too much of a hassle, another option is buy alternatives to liquid products.
Shampoo: J.H. Liggets Bar Shampoo
Toothpaste: Powder toothpaste
Shaving Cream: Shave Soap
Razors. Despite the ban on pocket knives, you can carry on certain shaving razors, such as disposable razors or razor cartridges. If you like to shave like your grandpa, you’ll be happy to know that safety razors are also allowed. However, you won’t be able to carry on your straight edge razor. Sorry Bill the Butcher.
Additional Tips
Leave a little room for souvenirs. If you’re going on vacation and expect to bring back some goodies for yourself and your loves ones, don’t pack your bag to the brim or you won’t have any room to tote the plunder back. If you plan on bringing a ton of stuff home, pack a collapsible bag inside of your bigger bag, and you can fill it with your booty.
Mix it up with your travel buddy. If you’re traveling with your bud or your girl, it’s a good idea to pack half of your clothes in her bag and half of her clothes in your bag. That way in case one of your bags gets lost while traveling, you’ll still have access to some of your clothes.
Steam it up. It’s hard to avoid wrinkling your clothes during transit. When you arrive to your destination, it’s best to unpack right away so you can let your clothes relax before creases and wrinkles get a chance to set. If you still have some wrinkles in your clothes, hang them up in the bathroom while you’re taking a hot steamy shower. This should help reduce any wrinkling.
Manly luggage. If you’re looking for some manly luggage to pack all your stuff in, make sure to check out Saddle Back Leather. It’s a bit expensive, but man does their stuff look awesome. Hat tip to Matt Chancey.

Some more Packing Tips...
Very useful for everyone in the family are pants that become shorts when the bottom parts zips off.
Bring lots of t-shirts including a few oldies that can be thrown away.
Even in a hot climate, bring a jacket or sweater: air-conditioned restaurants and hotels can get cold.
You may think that you need everything but if you are really crunched for space, don't pack anything that you can buy at your destination. Maybe you really don't need that 100 pack of diapers, 24 might suffice for the beginning of your trip.
Print out this travel packing list and travel right, don't leave anything behind again!
HOW TO PACK SHOES AND OTHER ITEMS
You may want to start an argument over the necessity for special skill in packing shoes. Is there anything special in this? You want to ask. Yes, you will soon find out. Let’s go.
Any careless packing of shoes can cause undesirable marks on your clothes and can soil or dirty your neat clothes. Do not rush in stocking your shoe, do not underestimate this process.
When you get to your destination, bring your clothes out and hang them in the bathroom while you take a steamy shower. This way, you allow your clothes to relax thereby helping to reduce excess wrinkling.
Put each pair of shoes in a nylon, grocery bag or newspaper and carefully place on top of every other items as you may have done this before now. Shoes could be one of the last items you want to pack into your travelling bag.
You may also want to pack some shoes that you want to prevent from wrinkles, simple, just roll up some socks and insert into each pair then place carefully into the bag with the sole facing up and placed at the corner of the bag.
If you plan to return from your expedition with some shopping items, make sure you provide rooms for your shopping items. Don’t pack to the brim. If your collection requires an extra bag, you can pack your collapsible bag inside the bigger bag.
HOW TO AVOID WRINKLING IN YOUR PACKING
It is a common thing among travellers to see wrinkled set of clothes badly creased when they are brought out from those beautiful travelling bags after a long enjoyable or stressed up trip. I want to also share the techniques for neat and crisp packing to help travellers keep neat and bubbling with wrinkling free clothes.
The technique is simple and I wish to keep it so. You can fold two or more clothes together. This method helps reduce the wrinkling effects you often end up with when you fold your clothes separately.
Alternatively, you can fold clothes that do not wrinkle easily such as T-shirts, jeans, underwear and cotton materials and wrap the others around it. The simple techniques I share with you here are to keep wrinkles to a minimum.
To reduce creases on your coat dress when it is absolutely necessary to travel with it probably for business expedition or for social rendezvous and you don't have the type of big suitcase that hangs jackets, your only option is to fold, here is the packing technique to use: Spread out the coat on a flat surface in a way that it is absolutely free from wrinkle. Fold each of the sleeve half way with armholes facing the shoulder pad. Turn the left half over the right half. Make sure you free each step you take from wrinkle. Make each fold smooth as far as you could. Gently lower the jacket into your bag.
