MAN SPENT THREE DAYS AFTER XMAS FASTING AND PRAYING FOR DEATH

While people world over engaged in merry making and engulfed in all sort of entertainment, exchanging gifts and sharing love one to another, lightening the candle of affection to the less privileged, widows and the orphans, a man whose destiny did not attract any of the multi-billion gifts that were shared this season took a bow to frustration that led him to an unusual fasting and prayer session, not for blessings as usual, not for lifting per se, not for grace and mercy but for death, yes, death.

The man in his forties was assured of a report based on anonymity before he agreed to speak to our reporter on December 27th 2009 and he rejected our offer to take his picture. This happens to be his second day in the fasting exercise.

Our reporter confirmed that he met the man in sobriety, solitarily engaged in fasting and praying exercise and was adamant to talk to anyone claiming that he had a business with God and he must settle it without committing grievous atrocity that may lead him to hell.

He dares hell, being a faithful Christian who is aware of life after death.

The story of this man confirms to us that while people are in their moment of joy some others may be in serious agony and this does not regard festive seasons or day to day life scenarios.

TP: What is your name sir?

Man: Of what use will that be to you? A man who has lost everything and has submitted to death is no longer interested in this world. By the time your report would be out my identity would have changed if God would be merciful unto me to grant my last prayer.

TP: What is your last prayer about?

Man: Simple, an exchange of life for eternal life in Jesus through the voluntary laying down of my life for death.

TP: You sound religious but how comes you are giving up faith?

Man: I am still faithful and resolute in my believe that God rules over the affairs of men, as a Christian, one should be faithful to death.

TP: Why do you have to pray instead of exploring other opportunities around you?
My story is a little different; I chose to pray instead because I don’t want to cause problems for my wife, children, friends and relatives by my sudden death. If I pray for accident, I will end up committing additional sin and go to hell. I will explain, one I will subject innocent people to loss, the driver, the owners of the vehicles involved, the passengers and pedestrians. It is possible to have other casualties; this means I do not only commit suicide but assassination. Before my pe

ople will identify me wherever I end my journey, they must have suffered. All of these will amount to sin and no sinner will go unpunished, you know now.

TP: How did you get caught up?

Man: NEPA, those you call power holdings, Lagos landlords and economic recession.

TP: How Sir?

Man: Power holding killed my visions, I spent a lot of money to service a facility that was not available between early 1990s till date. They frustrated me so much that I had to invest on alternative energy: Inverter and generating sets. While battling with power, my landlords tucked quit notices on my palms and since then I had found it hard to recover.

TP: Sir, how can you claim to have been singled out in the same society everyone lives in?

Man: I was not singled out; I am one out of millions of Nigerians whose youthful age was wasted fighting shadows due to the killing effect of blackout. The fact is that many people’s voices cannot be heard because there was no means to do so; people are really suffering in silence. The youths are wasting away. I am sure people are dying in silence. How can a man live to fulfil his full potentials when electricity is not available to operate in a technology driven society that we belong?

TP: Are you bowing to defeat?

Man: No. How can a brave and a courageous Christian bow to defeat? It just happened that I have to resign voluntarily after discovering that ridicule and failure are the results that I get in all sincere approach to recovery. This makes it a divine case and I have to also settle it spiritually after praying for recovery for so long. ‘A differed hope the bible says weakens the soul’. That is my position.

TP: Can we know some of the approaches you took?

Man: Yes. I believe so much in the saying that says ideas rule the world, I also believe in multiple streams of income and I practice what I believe. After the incident that killed my business acumen, I struggled to gather another capital within a year and I was able to safe about a million naira which I invested again in streams of income.
Let me share the way I distributed the investment. At first, I invested about N780,000.00 in stock and the story of the fall of the stock market was a global one, you are aware of it.
Dangote woe me about N75,000.00 naira till date, this was on the return check from their public offer on Dangote sugar in 2007. I have spent another fortune to recover this money with fail.
Another N150,000.00 was invested in Getaway internet networking programme and that also failed.
Moreover, I invested another N150,000.00 in forest trade, this also returned failure.
I invested in real estate being a secured business sector and ran into a hitch. I bought plots of land which some people and organisation encroached on. The case is still in court and I am highly optimistic for recovery of the land because I took due purchasing process.

TP: Have you lost hope of recovery completely now?

Man: No. During the investment period, I did not buy clothes neither for my household members and myself in the name of secured future. When all this downturn came to knowledge, I fasted, prayed and trusted in God. I am a man with integrity and I value good name; I tried other ideas but you know how people interprets your good intentions when ideas fail. The people in question are not mare men but people with financial muscles. This results to ridicule and wrong insinuations.

TP: Sir, there could still be a ray of light...

Man: Yes I know, did I mention how thieves broke into my office about five times and how I sustained fracture on my right hand within this trying times? Did I also mention that this is the sixth Christmas I am spending weeping and solitarily?

TP: You are just mentioning these sir but what do you think is missing?

Man: I have done what I think is necessary as a man, what is missing is that the little push that is needful is not available. I believe in God and in investment. I have no one to support my sincere investments and great ideas. I have a registered business name I operate with. I have been an employer of labour since 1993, God has endowed me with everything good but support of people is what I lack. None of my family members have the kind of money that I need for my business. I tried on my own to save money and I invested but see where I am today.
